Book Review: Ask again, Yes

As i catch up on the long lost world of books, i can't help but think of documenting my thoughts on books am striking off my 'want to read' collection on goodreads.

'Ask again, yes' is a book i devoured in a short time, to say the least. Though the book was concocted on the plot of surviving difficulties, abnormality and tragedy, it  ended with a surprisingly unexpected moment of realization that life is good, amidst odds, falling and rising, gaps and crevices, perfections and imperfections and the decisions we make stay with us ,making us braver than we ever imagine we are.

This book made me realize few things:

  • Love can be strong, weak or unsure but the strength of relationships, trust and commitment are what take  someone to the end, to happiness beyond those innumerable moments which can make one give up on the other.  The decisions and sacrifices we make ,make us in the end,
  •  Not every one in this world is in a happy place - the world is cruel, sad and a non stop battle for some and it is critical to get the much needed help to these people. It also taught me that suffering generally produces the best in most cases, the almighty above does have a plan for everyone going through hardships. I believe Peter and Kate are my favorite characters for that reason.
  • It is easier to forgive than we think it is. Words have a super power- when spoken at wrong times, they can create havoc. But if used carefully to heal and to close gaps, they do work wonders and take off unsurmountable weight when you least expect them to. I have truly believed, felt this in some of my unexpected encounters with people.
  • Your family - your siblings and your parents will always be there for you no matter what. They will lift you out from deep down when you need to be lifted, lay low when you want them to and push you when you need to be pushed. I think of Anne and i remember her as someone, who lost everything but in the end had only her son, to look forward to, as apart from him as she was.
  • Nothing is permanent- permanence is a delusion, what stays and will stay always is change.Change of circumstances, changes in people, change in your interests, beliefs, change in your desires, change in your dreams and goals.Change is what takes us higher or at times in a equilibrium we seek for ages.
  • Persistence is what will distinguish ordinary people from fighters. Persistence to fight disease, persistence to hold the family together,  to raise kids amidst difficult times, to marry someone you love, to overcome addictions, to stand with those you love in darkest of times.

As much as i liked the book, i couldn't resonate that well with the title.
The book made me fall in love with the concept of family, as always.
